about us

In 1994 Surfaris pioneered the remote area “ Learn to Surf “ format. We had two objectives; To provide a vehicle for experienced surfers to reach the more remote surfing locations on the N.S.W. North Coast & to provide an alternative method of " learning to surf " for the absolute beginner to that provided by day school operators who, due to the restrictions of licensing & urban crowds, concentrate on getting the learner to stand up on the broken wave.We believe that if the customer can be placed on the right equipment in long running small, uncrowded surf then rapid improvement can be obtained. This kind of condition can only be found in remote areas, in short, National  Parks. Time has demonstrated that there are three kinds of people who do these trips:

Experienced Surfers:  These will take our trips over other operators because they understand the difference. It's a no brainer. If you want good quality uncrowded surf then we are your only chance. The other groups who have entered this field are all mass transit day school operators who have neither the capacity, the licenses, the will nor the knowledge to find you the right  conditions. They all regularly put their custom into heavy onshore wind conditions whereas we guarantee that we will put you into at least protected conditions if not off shore conditions. Surfers understand the difference.

Absolute beginners who take the trip as an experience & have no intention of continuing with the activity after the trip:  This is a large category of custom & it doesn't matter which operator this category travels with, they will get a different experience with each operator.

What they will get with us is an introduction into the surfing lifestyle in the most remote section of the NSW Coastline. If you are interested in the natural environment then you will travel with us.

Absolute beginners who wish to acquire the skills to continue with the activity after the trip:  This group would be well advised to travel with us. The other operators are all day school operators who have simply transferred their day school formats to coastal rural centres. If you want to acquire the skills to go on with this activity within a weekly format then we are your only chance. It is only with us that you will have the opportunity to paddle out & catch a long running small wave & it is in the process of doing that & understanding why you are where you are; That is, wind & swell direction, that you will have any hope of acquiring the skills to go on with the activity.
